What is Shoulder Pain?
The primary cause of the shoulder pain may be the shoulder joint itself, or from the surrounding tendons, ligaments or muscles. Tendonitis or inflammation of the tendons of the shoulder joint is common.
Symptoms
Pain quality can vary greatly from dull achy and mild to sharp and severe. In certain cases, such as when the pain is due to injury, the pain is triggered or worsened by repetitive use.
Causes and Risks
There are multiple conditions and factors that can cause shoulder pain. One of the most common causes is tendonitis of the rotator cuff. This occurs when the tendons in the shoulder are inflamed.
Treatment and Prevention
Anti-inflammatory medications, as well as corticosteroid injections and of course physical therapy can help to lessen shoulder pain.
