About Athanasios Manole, MD
Dr. Manole is native to the state growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Manole’s education began at the University of New Mexico where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Dr. Manole attended medical school at the University of New Mexico. During his medical education he was involved in national health policy and was awarded the prestigious American College of Physicians Health Policy Internship. This honor is given to one medical student per year to work with Congressional Leaders on health policy in Washington DC. This training was then used at the state level to lobbying for Senate Bill 69, a bill supporting the use of telemedicine in New Mexico.
Dr. Manole’s postgraduate education is extensive. He began his residency training in preventive medicine. He went on to focus his training in occupational medicine and pain management. His training consisted primarily of interventional and interdisciplinary pain management; focusing on rehabilitation of patients suffering from work and non-work related musculoskeletal, spinal cord, and brain injuries.
During his clinical residency training, Dr. Manole pursued a Master’s Degree in Biological Science and Clinical Research. He uses these skills to critically evaluate the most up to date medical literature and incorporate evidenced based medicine into his clinical practice.
Dr. Manole holds four board certifications; Preventive Medicine, Occupational/ Environmental Medicine, and Interventional Pain Management. He is also a Board Certified Independent Medical Examiner.
In addition to his practice at Modern Pain & Spine, Dr. Manole also serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the UNM School of Medicine. He is a passionate educator who enjoys teaching medical residents, medical students, and pre-med students.
He currently serves as the head physician overseeing several construction and work sites for large international companies, also serving as the head physician for several scientific research and development firms.
Dr. Manole is a board certified independent medical examiner and has testified in cases regarding great bodily harm in the municipal courts and the United States District Court. Dr. Manole has provided thousands of independent medical evaluations for disabled veterans seeking to attain disability benefits through the Veteran’s Administration. He serves as a volunteer with the New Mexico Medical Review Commission.
In addition to his passion for his specialty, Dr. Manole is committed to health policy and public health. He currently sits on the New Mexico Overdose Prevention and Pain Management Advisory Council. He is a volunteer with the New Mexico Medical Reserve Core. He has volunteered during the COVID-19 outbreak to provide testing and vaccine distribution to thousands of New Mexicans.
Dr. Manole is fluent in Greek, Spanish and conversational in French. In addition to his passion for medicine, his hobbies include exercising, studying ancient Greek and Roman history, engineering and the natural sciences.

He offers a combination of cutting-edge interventional pain procedures, regenerative medicine, lifestyle modification, and customized physical therapy regimens designed to improve quality of life and relieve pain.
